East Grand Rapids
East Grand Rapids is a small city on the east side of metropolitan Grand Rapids in Kent County, Michigan. The primary geography is residential homes, although there is a business district containing all the essential services, a selection of specialty stores and boutiques, and a world-class hospital within the borders.
Welcome to East Grand Rapids! We are a very special community located just 10 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids. The hallmark of East Grand Rapids is the sense of community and pride that prevails throughout our city.
Our community has a rich and colorful history. Decades ago we were home to Ramona Park, a somewhat infamous amusement park complete with a roller coaster that was located in what is now our business district. Steamboats used to sail across Reeds Lake. We are proud to be known as the home town of Gerald R. Ford, the 38th President of the United States. Our library houses an impressive collection of historical items from our past for residents to explore at their leisure.
Today East Grand Rapids is known for being one of the premiere residential areas in Western Michigan. Our city motto proclaims our community as a "better place to live." Recent city and school projects highlight our commitment to live up to those words. John Collins Park on the shores of Reeds Lake offers a beautiful setting to relax and enjoy our unique lakefront location. A summer concert series and numerous community events take place in the park throughout the year. Gaslight Village, in the center of our city, is a unique mix of inviting stores, services and restaurants. Our city complex completes this triad of community gathering places and is home to our city offices, Public Safety Department, Recreation Department and Library. In addition, the Wege Plaza overlooking the lake has recently been constructed behind the complex to add to the resident use and enjoyment of this site. Our facilities demonstrate the pride our residents take in our community and their commitment to maintain the tradition of excellence for which East Grand Rapids is known.
I look forward to working with you to ensure that East Grand Rapids always remains the very best place to call home. Please feel free to contact me anytime I can be of assistance to you. -Cindy Bartman, Mayor of East Grand Rapids
